About Dr. Schiro
Joseph C.
Schiro, M.D. is a board certified
cardiothoracic surgeon who has been
practicing cardiac and thoracic surgery
at Sarasota Memorial Hospital since
1984.
In addition to his active cardiac
surgical practice, Dr. Schiro has
developed a keen interest in lower
extremity venous disease and has been
actively involved with the minimally
invasive treatment of varicose veins
since 2002. He is the founder and
Medical Director of The Vein Center of
Sarasota.
Dr. Schiro
attended Creighton University in Omaha,
Nebraska from 1970-1973 and graduated
from Creighton University School of
Medicine in 1977. He finished his
general surgery training in 1982 and
went on to complete his Cardiothoracic
Surgery Residency at the University of
Tennessee in 1984. He has been
practicing in Sarasota ever since.
Dr. Schiro
was instrumental in establishing the
cardiac surgery program at Sarasota
Memorial Hospital and making it one of
the best programs in the country. He is
a past Chief of Cardiac Surgery at
Sarasota Memorial Hospital and a Fellow
of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Schiro has assembled a staff of
experts whose goal is to offer state of
the art minimally invasive treatment for
varicose veins as well as all other
forms of lower extremity venous disease.
